OUR SCIENCE AIMS AT KINGSFOLD PRIMARY

At Kingsfold Primary we recognise how Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and that all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, we encourage pupils to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena via our 3 main curriculum drivers below.

Be resilient: We will aim to build resilience in children by allowing as many opportunities as possible with which to develop their skills and experience in Working Scientifically. Via these pathways, children will be able to gradually develop a mature cognitive skill set when faced with results or observations that may not have been exactly predicted and will be encouraged to ask themselves questions for example: “Why did that happen?” or “How could we have done it differently?” “What if we repeated our actions?” “Have we been accurate enough?” and most importantly be encouraged to try it again or offered other chances to explore further.

Be Inquistive: Our aim is to maintain children’s curiosity from the very start by not only providing exposure to practical activities but encouraging and teaching them how to ask more scientific questions at the start of and during a topic and specifically helping them to apply knowledge from other areas of the curriculum.

Be Challenged: Our children will be challenged appropriately as they progress through school by subject matter that shows a clear progression from Year to Year in terms of Subject Knowledge but also by an increased expectation in the development of their skills in Working Scientifically.

Science Half Term Challenges

Each half term, a science challenge will be set to develop the love of science at home as well as in school. This is a great opportunity to work together as a family to share science knowledge and have fun at the same time!
